2021 Holstein Friesian New Zealand Award Results

2021 Valden Cow of the Year

A 10-year-old Balclutha dairy cow has beaten five other finalists to win the coveted title of 2021 Valden Cow of the Year.

Raymac ME Expresso VG87 5* SP, bred by Stephen and Judith Ray of Raymac Holsteins, was announced the winner at the 2021 Holstein Friesian New Zealand Awards in Whangarei in June.

Expresso is the daughter of the 2020 Valden Cow of the Year winner, Raymac Justice Esonny EX 20* ET SP, also bred by Raymac Holsteins.

The Valden Cow of the Year title is awarded to the cow that is deemed to have or have the potential to contribute to the Holstein Friesian breed on a continual basis.

2021 Mahoe Trophy

Meander Holsteins won the 2021 Mahoe Trophy with Meander SB Alias-ET S2F, with 524.44 points.

The Mahoe Trophy is awarded to the New Zealand-bred Holstein Friesian sire whose sire proof, as at the April 2021 AE Run, earns the most points for traits, daughter production, conformation and management.

2021 Holstein Friesian New Zealand-Boehringer Ingelheim Progeny Competition

Henley Farming Company Ltd won the Senior division of the 2021 Holstein Friesian New Zealand-Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Progeny Competition, with San Ray FM Beamer-ET S2F with 421.50 points.

Maire Farms Ltd came runner up with Fairmont Mint-Edition on 419.83 points, and S&R Ray came third with Seagull-Bay Supersire-ET on 398.25 points.

In the Junior division of the 2021 Holstein Friesian New Zealand-Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Progeny Competition, W&L Taylor placed first with Maire IG Gauntlet-ET on 253.58 points.

Tronnoco Farming Co Ltd came runner up with Maire Mint Fire-Up on 236.58 points, and Glenmead Farms Ltd came third with Maire IG Gauntlet-ET on 234.50 points.

Titles in both categories are awarded to the team with the highest points for classification based on the 2020/21 season’s inspections, scored for udder overall and final score, production worth and protein BV.

2021 Nutritech Performance Awards

Many congratulations to CView Trust (Stefan Buehler, Hawera) who has taken out the 2021 Nutritech Performance Awards Overall Award with $5,610.32, as well as the Ward 4 category.

The Nutritech Performance Awards are awarded to herd owners with the highest dollar earning herd average for their region, based on the Fonterra A+B-C payment system for the 2019/20 season).

The regional winners are as follows:

2021 Word Wide Sires Protein Awards

Valden Danny Donna-ET S3F GP84 was the winner of both the 5yrs+ and Overall awards in the 2021 Word Wide Sires Protein Awards.

Congratulations to CView Trust (Stefan Buehler, Hawera) for an outstanding figure of 554kg/protein.

CView trust also took out the 2yr, 3yr and 4yr categories:

2yr: Buelin Inca Greta (441kg protein)

3yr: Buelin Beamer Lola-OC S1F VG86 (469kg protein)

4yr: Buelin Shadow Gaina S1F (507kg protein)

2021 Snowline Trophy

Congratulations to G & K Peters on their cow, Rock View Porsche S0F EX, winning the title of the top earning veteran cow for the 2019/20 season, at $7,020.45.

2021 Tokaora Trophy

Congratulations to Payne Farms Ltd (Brad Payne, Cambridge) for winning the 2021 Tokaora Trophy with Paynes R Ella-ET-RR S2F GP82.

The heifer achieved 127 points in the award celebrating the 2-year-old heifer with the highest points for classification, fat and protein production and BVs in the 2019/20 season.

Payne Farms also placed runner up with Paynes Archie Anya S0F GP84 on 123 points.

2021 Sherriff Memorial Trophy

Many congratulations to Snowfed Farm Ltd of Ashburton,  the winner of the 2021 Sherriff Memorial Trophy with an average score of 84.00.

The Sherriff memorial trophy is awarded to a member of less than 10 years who achieved the highest average classification score for 2-year-olds in 2020/21 season.

2021 Withers Trophy

Congratulations to Mike and Margaret Kane of Thames on their heifer Marchel Grand Joy S1F GP83 winning the 2021 Withers Trophy.

The Withers Trophy, donated by the family of Brian and Greta Withers, is awarded to the Elite Heifer from 2019 Discovery Project team in her first lactation as a 2-year-old meeting the following criteria: LW 250 or above; classified 83 or better and classified with all 2-year-olds in the home herd; produced embryos; and calved by 31 October the following season.
