Twenty-seven lots went under the hammer on Tuesday night for the 2022 Holstein Friesian NZ Black & White Youth Auction, raising an incredible $16,250 to benefit the HFNZ Youth and Young Breeder programmes.
The annual auction, held as part of the 2022 HFNZ AGM & Conference, saw enthusiastic bids on items from product vouchers to bull semen, picnic blankets, wine, clothing, and cow-themed merchandise in a fun-filled evening.
Running alongside the auction was the Black & White Youth Silent Auction, which saw ten straws of semen from Farside M Illustrious S3F, five straws of Woodcote FI Mastermind, five straws of Tronnoco MH Samba-ET S3F and 10 straws of Lightburn B Malbec-ET S3F available to bid on, with the highest bid as at 6.30pm Wednesday night deemed the winner of each lot. Proceeds from the silent auction, with lots donated by LIC, brought the total amount raised for the HFNZ Black & White Youth and Young Breeder programmes to $17,585.
The auction was held at the Copthorne Hotel, Palmerston North, with PGG Wrightson’s Jamie Cunninghame as auctioneer. It was also held online on Bidr.
Last year’s auction raised $13,845, with all proceeds from the Youth Auction benefitting the HFNZ Youth and Young Breeder programmes in a variety of ways including free subscriptions for members under 13; Arapeta, Kingsland and Pitcairns Trophies; NZ Black & White Youth Show Trip and National All Dairy Breeds Youth Camp, in addition to much more.
