The 2025 Holstein Friesian NZ Black & White Youth Auction has once again delivered, raising in excess of $17,000 in support of the HFNZ Black & White Youth programme.
Held on Tuesday night at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill as part of the 2025 Holstein Friesian NZ Conference—and streamed live on bidr®—the auction brought together breeders and supporters from across the country. A total of 25 lots were auctioned by Selwyn Donald, whose energy and expertise helped keep the bids flowing.
This year’s diverse line-up included everything from elite genetics—semen and embryos from top sires—to sought-after animal health products, stylish clothing, homeware, artwork, premium beverages, an exciting fishing charter out of Whakatāne, and even two surprise mystery lots. With something for everyone, the auction generated strong interest both in the room and online.
The funds raised will go directly to programmes that support young Holstein Friesian breeders—providing valuable training, leadership development, and exposure to industry events and opportunities.
“The Youth Auction went really well,” auction organiser Helen Cummings said. “It was great to see all the support. As always, it was a lot of fun, a lot of laughs and Selwyn Donald did an awesome job as auctioneer.”
Last year’s auction raised just over $15,500, and this year’s result reaffirms the ongoing commitment from breeders, sponsors and supporters to backing youth in the dairy industry.
