Holstein Friesian NZ Vice President Doug Courtman registered his first Holstein Friesian cow in 1971. He has owned his own herd since 1982 and now milks 141, mainly pedigree Holstein Friesian cows, on his Otorohanga farm where they are producing around 450kg/ms per cow.
Doug has used mainly North American and European genetics across his herd, mixed with some New Zealand blood lines and has been a supporter of Holstein Friesian NZ Genetic Leaders programme for the past 12 years. Doug says his aim is to breed big cows that milk well and are true to the Holstein Friesian type.
